Rebecca Johnston grew up in Hood River, Oregon where she fell in love with outdoor sports and fostered her athleticism as a high-performance volleyball athlete. After battling osteosarcoma cancer throughout college and choosing to amputate her leg for another chance at competing in sports again, Rebecca has finally made it in Parasnowboarding at the highest level and will be competing in her second season on the World Cup circuit this winter 2024. Rebecca’s ultimate goal is to represent her country and hometown by competing on the world’s stage at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Paralympic Games. Finances are the greatest barrier standing in the way of her goals. With all World Cup competitions taking place internationally, she will need to raise $8,000 or more to offset the cost of plane tickets, lodging, race fees, transportation, and coaching fees for her competitions. Estimated Cost Breakdown for the 2024-24 Season: Flights $4,000 Lodging $2,500 Coaching Fees $600 Groceries $300 Transportation $400 Lift Tickets $500 Race Entry Fees $850 Wax & Tuning $50 Upcoming Competitions: February 2024 - Pyhatunturi, Finland – Snowboardcross March 2024 – Colere, Italy – Snowboardcross March 2024 – Grasgehren, Germany – Snowboardcross March 2024 – Big White, Canada – Snowboardcross March 2024 – Mt. Sima, Canada – Dual Banked Slalom Having the chance to compete internationally in Parasnowboarding is essential not only for the future of Rebecca’s snowboarding career, but also for the careers of all other women’s LL1 athletes. At the 2024 Winter Paralympic Games, the women’s LL1 category for Parasnowboarding did not exist because there were not enough classified athletes at the World Cup level, and the category faces the same risk of being left out for the 2026 Games. That decision will be made based on the results of this winter’s World Cup circuit. It is imperative that Rebecca, along with her fellow LL1 athletes, can compete internationally at the World Cup level. Please show your support for her journey by donating to her travel funds, and contribute towards making this dream possible for all future women’s LL1 snowboarding athletes.
