Hi, my name is Stuart. I'm raising funds for my Younger brother to help him and my parents fulfil his bucket list. Matthew is such a kind-hearted person and will do anything for those he loves or in need. Matthew was born with a very rare condition called B6 Non-Responsive Homocystinuria. Basically Matt's body can't break down Methionine in protein. This causes serious issues with his muscles (including the heart), brain and bones and he has an extremely high risk of blood clots(Please research for a more complex explanation)He has had to follow an extremely restrictive diet ,take prescription nutritional supplements, and many medications. Matty has faced many serious complications some of those being severe scoliosis which required major spinal surgery to correct, osteoporosis from a young age which he had regular infusions to try and strengthen his bones.This also caused a a lot of pain as it was like mini fractures throughout his skeleton and was unable to do any contact or physical activities in case of injury. Matt's condition caused a significant Intellectual delay and mental health issues. Due to Matt's vulnerability and physical limitations he was constantly bullied, excluded and on 3 occasions seriously attacked including being robbed and threatened with a blood filled syringe and stabbed with a knife requiring emergency surgery which then caused PTSD and social anxiety. Matt had a heart attack when he was 21yrs old and in the last couple of years has had both lenses in his eyes removed as they became detached ( he now wears contacts externally and is legally blind without them), has had emergency surgery for large clots in both his coronary and artery in his lower leg ( which he almost lost the use of that leg. It was at this time he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure which is now deteriorating and causing him to struggle with his breathing more and more when he is doing even minor daily routines and walking short distances. This and a recent visit to his cardiologist have made us realise that we need to put all our efforts into trying to fulfill our wish to give Matty as many of his bucket list and general life experiences before his condition deteriorates and won't allow us this privilege. He has endured so much in his 30yrs and has never complained, always just soldiering on with so much strength and more concern for everyone around him. The funds raised will be used to fulfil his bucket list before he is unable to do so.
