INTRODUCTION: On March 19, 2024, my friends', Delsie and Julius, lives were forever changed when a hit-and-run drunk driver crashed into their car! The husband-and-wife tandem is very involved in our organization, Socsksargen USA. The accident not only inflicted traumatic injuries but more devastatingly, completely demolished Delsie's wheelchair-accessible vehicle. If that was not enough, their insurance coverage fell short of their financial needs leaving them without the means to acquire a replacement vehicle for Delsie. As a result, the accident has not only impacted their physical well-being but also significantly diminished their quality of life. DELSIE'S PREVIOUS ENDEAVORS: My friend Delsie Sarco-Estucado warmly opens her home for many planning meetings and special events of our group as well as to our university alumni organization. She is also a friend and supporter of a Christ-centered camp for adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Despite facing physical disability due to a spinal aneurysm in 1999, Delsie has never let it hinder her from living life to the fullest. She continues to fulfill her role as a devoted mother to her three children and a loving and supportive wife to her husband, Julius. Delsie carpooled other kids from their church with her children to school for years until they could walk to their schools. She goes on medical missions with her husband to the Philippines serving the poorest among the community. Equipped with a specially modified vehicle that transforms her electric wheelchair into a driver's seat, Delsie remains active, independent, and involved in various aspects of her life. Until a reckless drunk driver stole it all from her! A speeding driver under the influence ran a red light, colliding with Delsie and Julius' vehicle, causing them to spin uncontrollably. Miraculously, both survived the accident. But Delsie's vehicle was totaled and her power wheelchair was irreparably damaged, leaving her without transportation and mobility. The drunk driver's insufficient insurance coverage, limited to the New Jersey state minimum of $25,000, with two other claimants, coupled with obstacles created by their own insurance company, has left them struggling. Several months have passed since the incident, and the situation has taken a toll on Delsie physically and emotionally. While we cannot alleviate her recurring physical pains, regaining her freedom of mobility would significantly improve her psychological well-being. OUR GOAL: The family tried their best to raise funds for Delsie's vehicle through garage sales and other means but was still far from their goal. We need to raise $50,000 to help Delsie replace her electric wheelchair and acquire a second-hand handicap-modified van. Your kindness and generosity will make a tremendous difference in her life, allowing her to move around independently again. She cannot wait to be able to contribute her share of service to her beloved community. While we cannot fully comprehend the challenges she faces, together, we can bring back her sense of normalcy and provide her with the opportunity to regain control over her daily activities, restoring the quality of life stolen by an irresponsible drunk driver. CONCLUSION: Your support will go a long way for Delsie to regain freedom of mobility and buy her a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. As well, your contributions will uplift her spirits and bring renewed hope. Delsie's gratitude knows no bounds, and she expresses her heartfelt appreciation in advance for any assistance you can provide. Maraming Salamat po! Thank you! Xiexie! Gracias! A plea from a friend and community leader Rowena Mejia Randman
