Our dear front neighbor, Reggie, passed away suddenly four weeks ago. We're all mourning his loss and miss him very much. Maggie is Reggie's now former roommate and his best friend. They lived together in the house in front of ours for the past 13 years.** With Reggie gone, Maggie has no source of income. We adore Maggie and want her to have some cushion to be able to fall back on, especially in this time of grief and housing instability. We're asking our friends to help us pool some money to help Maggie in this difficult time. Our fundraising goal is $5,000, which would cover adequate savings for food, bills, and potential housing costs for the next several months. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maggie is originally from Northern England and has been in the U.S. for the last 30 years. She's now in her late 60s and is physically disabled from a serious illness in her 40s and a serious back injury. When Reggie's grandmother, Alice, was still alive, Maggie cared for her and did all the cooking and cleaning around the house. She kept that role after Alice passed away, doing a lot of the cooking and cleaning around the house for herself and Reggie. In return, Alice and Reggie would always set money aside for her to be able to live. With Reggie gone, Maggie has no source of income. Once we (hopefully) reach our goal, Sophie will deposit the money into her bank account and take cash out to give directly to Maggie. Maggie is so beloved by our neighborhood and was so beloved by Alice and Reggie. She deserves to have some relief in this time of stress. Thank you for giving - every gift matters, no matter the size! A little more about Maggie: Back in England, she was an engineer working on creating drum kits and naval ship parts. In the States, she could only work odd jobs like nannying and waitressing because her credentials didn't carry over. Before her surgeries and illness, she was an avid athlete (factory pool team, factory soccer team, cricket, the works) and keep the flame alive by watching every sport imaginable. She and Sophie are having a great time obsessively tracking the Women's World Cup. **We (Charlie + Sophie) live in a back house in Los Angeles - for those unfamiliar, a lot of properties in LA have a front and back unit and share a yard.
