Hello, my name is Katie Grant and I am raising money for my husband Eric. We just met with Hospice today... This is very hard for me to even write, as the tears fill my eyes and my chest is so tight, but I am swallowing that lump in my throat and pushing through, for him. Let me back up here and give you some insight into his, rather our, life. Eric was an easy-going kid who was attached to his mama's hip, looked up to his big brother, dreamed about being like his dad, lived for making others laugh and his best friend was his grandma Moo. Eric grew up and none of those things ever changed, only he was bigger, and louder, way louder lol. He loves fishing, boating, in fact, anything on or near the water, animals, comedy, Seinfeld, history, food and his family. His family grew to an outrageous number when he married into my large family, then we had our miracle baby Annabelle, and we can't ever leave out our fur babies of course. In his thirties, he had testicular cancer and fought and won that battle. Now in his forties, the C word was back. Yet this time it was his big brother, not him, or so we thought. So, Eric followed his brother's footsteps and got a colonoscopy. I will never forget, waiting in the truck, due to COVID, the nurse called and said the doctor wanted to speak with us in person, could I come in right away. The nurse, and the doctor, met us at the main entrance door, I carried Annabelle as she was not even two yet, and we followed them into the back to the little recovery room where Eric was still out of it from the procedure. The nurse, tissues in hand, the doctor and me holding Annabelle all stood over Eric behind a small curtained room where the doctor pulls out photos of a polyp that did not look right. We were blessed that first go-round as they were certain they got all of it. A follow-up procedure, about two years later, proved to be not so fortunate for our family. They thought it was possibly in Erics' lungs already, but couldn't tell and proceeded with rounds of chemo, radiation, more chemo, and surgery. The scans after a year of fighting resulted in the cancer spreading, not only to the lungs but also to the liver. Eric did not give up upon hearing this devasting news and continued to do all the things possible to keep the cancer at bay. Sadly the mutation and LARS have made that harder to do. With his cancer continuing to grow and spread the doctors have relayed a poor diagnosis, hence the reason hospice was here today. As Annabelle keeps reminding me "God can do anything", so it's ultimately in his hands. We of course have faith, but we also can not procrastinate any longer! When Eric's cancer first metastasized he had just three things on his bucket list; go to the keys, pet an elephant, and fly in a helicopter. We have yet to do any of those three things, which is why we are asking for your help to make these dreams come true. Earlier on I stated that it was not just Eric's story, it was ours because Eric is a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, a veteran, a husband and a little girl's daddy. These memories are just as much for him as they are for all of us! We want Eric to enjoy however many days God has planned for him and we want to create as many beautiful moments to store in our hearts forever. So please help us make these dreams come true, not just for Eric, but for his family too.
