My son Chandler is 12 years old. He has always been a runner. I have only had to call the police one time, but he has been missing hundreds of times. From a few seconds to a few minutes. Countless parents like me have a similar story. I have slept in front of his door, I have put alarms, locks, more locks after he figures those out...always one step ahead. When I go running, I map out the bodies of water near my house, I time the minutes it takes me to get to a busy street, a neighbors pool, the river. No parent should have to live in constant fear, in constant battle mode. Many areas including Bismarck and East Grand Forks have project lifesaver. Check it out at projectlifesaver.org. A non profit that can train our local law enforcement and provide equipment to find our missing children or anyone affected by wandering, including elderly patients with dementia and alzheimers. The training and equipment is $5000. My child's life is worth that, your loved ones who wander are worth that. I want the option as a parent for piece of mind, for the seconds that matter if my son wanders again. Any funds over that amount would go to purchase the transmitter bands for families ($95 enrollment fee),and the $25 a month subscription fee for those who cannot afford the bands or subscription. For the few calls our law enforcement gets every year, there are hundreds and thousands of families living in fear of their child going missing. These children have no sense of danger, would go into traffic, into bodies of water, hide in dangerous areas. With this technology we could drastically cut the time it takes to find them. Even if it is only used one time. That loved one's life could depend on it. Please join me in securing these funds to bring this option to our community.
