Dear All, My name is Andrew Myrick, and I am a proud member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB). Today, I come to you seeking your support in our community's pursuit of transparency and accountability regarding our Long-Term Investment (LTI) fund. Since 2005, over $75,000,000 has been contributed to our LTI fund. The allocation and management of these funds, which should be serving the interests of our community and its future, remain unclear to the majority of GTB Tribal Members. To understand how these funds have been used, and to ensure the ongoing fair and transparent treatment of our shared resources, I requested access to all LTI account records from 2005 to the present. Surprisingly, the GTB Tribal Council and Legal Department responded by stating that the records I requested are not classified as "public governance" documents, thus making them accessible only with a significant fee, estimated to be around $400. This fee reflects the administrative labor necessary to compile these documents - a cost that, understandably, many may feel should not be a barrier to accessing such important information. Believing in our collective right to this information, and aware that this financial hurdle could deter many from seeking such transparency, I've decided to step up and initiate a LFEBridge campaign. This campaign aims to raise $400, but we do anticipate additional costs to be imposed by GTB Tribal Council and Legal Department during this process. With these funds, I plan to pay the administrative fee and make the documents accessible to all GTB tribal members, ensuring everyone in our community can gain a clear understanding of our LTI fund's financial history. Transparency and financial accountability are the building blocks of a thriving and fair community. By shedding light on our LTI fund's management, we can ensure that our resources are being used effectively, and in a way that truly benefits the GTB community and its future generations. Your contributions will not only help obtain these documents but will send a clear message to our Tribal Council about the importance of financial transparency and our shared commitment to holding them accountable. Let's take this step together towards a more transparent and accountable community! Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal. If you're unable to donate, you can still make a significant contribution to our cause by sharing this campaign within your networks. Thank you for your time and consideration. Your support is deeply appreciated. Warm Regards, Andrew Myrick UPDATE: Thanks for getting us over halfway there already! Please share this with other Tribal Members to join and send a message to Tribal Council that we need transparency and maybe even a Tribal Council member or two can contribute now that they gave themselves $20,000 raises!
