Salaam (Peace and blessings upon you). I hope this finds you and yours in good health and spirits IA. For those who don’t know yet, I am taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, in aid of the new State of the Art Community Centre project in Maidenhead. The scheme has been in the pipeline ever since I was in short trousers, but pleased to advise work has finally commenced on this scheme, with the piling now complete on site, and the RC frame structure now well underway. Maidenhead mosque was first established in 1983 making it the first purpose-built mosque in Berkshire, the mosque has gone through many phases of development and progress. The building has become an attractive landmark of our Royal Borough and is well-known to all, with a proud history. The centre on the site of the former Citizens Advice Bureau has been an integral part of the local community for several years, and proved to be an absolute lifeline during the pandemic, operating as a food bank supporting the most vulnerable in our community. The centre will have various facilities serving the community, including Health & well-being years, Youth Club & Activities, Education & Learning, Community & Social Services, Conference & Networking, Senior Citizens day centre, Creche & Playgroups and much, much more. The challenge is to complete 24miles with 5000ft of elevation in under 12 hours. As you can imagine this is an incredible challenge, especially for someone with my levels of fitness, who struggles walking a flight of stairs. After much deliberation and persuasion from those around me, I have taken the leap and accepted the challenge! What’s the worst that can happen, I might even shift a few pounds?! To help prepare me for this feat, I have been training with my camp for a few weeks now, and as hard as it is, I am feeling more confident with every step I take and enjoying exploring on my feet. I have never undertaken anything like this before and am a complete noob to all the fitness stuff and have found things that ache in places that I never knew existed, but I will persevere and do my best to PEAK! Here’s the bit I need you guys to do to support me in my endeavours. Yes, you guessed it - the S word … sponsors! Ultimately the end goal is to raise funds for the project, and I kindly reach out to you amazing guys to support me in making this cause a huge success. I am aiming for the stars and have a very ambitious target of at least £100 a mile, and with my surveying skills, I round this up to £2.5k :D The odds were stacked against me a little while ago, when a special person pledged to double the amount I raise in donations, therefore double the Nectar points! What's not to like !? I appreciate things may not be as rosy with everything going on in the world, but please, please shake out those pockets and generously support me in my mission, no matter how big or small. Every pound will help lay those bricks and make a huge difference for generations to come. Thanking you all in advance . . . . . 30 days to go! Let’s do this champs! Best Wishes, Usman / Uzzy
