At this juncture, necessity compelled me to become a full-time Substitute for Kansas City Public Schools. Our family has faced additional obstacles as two of our children have special needs, with one of them also coping with a Traumatic Brain Injury, while our youngest battles various medical and mental health problems. Adding to our hardships, a few years ago, I experienced a stroke that revealed underlying anemia and a heart condition, severely impacting my ability to function as both a mother and provider. Recently, we encountered yet another setback. A devastating event occurred when our basement flooded with sewage. We sought the assistance of three different plumbers, who confirmed that the main trap under our home, which dates back to the early 1900s, has failed and urgently requires replacement. Additionally, a significant portion of the pipeline connecting our home to the street needs attention. As a result, raw sewage now permeates our basement, rendering our living conditions uninhabitable. We are unable to use water in our own home, compounding the distressing situation. Unfortunately, we lack the financial means to relocate to alternative accommodation. The repair costs are estimated at $6,500, and despite our best efforts, securing the necessary funding has proven to be an insurmountable challenge. This is why I am reaching out to you, desperately seeking your help. My children, above all else, require a clean and safe environment to live in, and they need it urgently. To restore our home to a livable state, it is imperative that we address the plumbing issue as swiftly as possible. Even a contribution as small as one dollar would make a significant impact.
