Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this very special family’s story. This family has tried to do it all on their own. But it’s time to reach out and ask for a little help from the community. Chris(husband and dad) is still so far from ready to get into the roll of a working husband and father. And anything can help even if it’s a prayer or a share but clearly donations to help with bills piling up at home. Anything is more than appreciated. Sunday, June 25, 2024 their family woke up and went about life as normal. By 10:30 AM their lives suffered a near fatal accident. While Chris went on a motorcycle ride. Chris was traveling southbound on Amelia Olive Branch Road at thirty-five miles per hour when a distracted driver attempted to make a left turn onto Lake Allyn Drive. The driver turned directly into Chris at an unknown speed causing him to flip over the vehicle landing approximately thirty-nine and a half feet away from the strike point. Yes Chris was wearing a helmet as always. ( we will post pictures and only post ones we feel readers could handle seeing) The damage to Chris was catastrophic as the trauma surgeon described. Thankfully Chris lost consciousness as his body slipped into shock. Thankfully there were witnesses who contacted emergency services and they realized the seriousness of his injuries, transporting him to UC Hospital which is a Trauma I center. Trauma surgeons jumped into action to fix the following injuries: Broken thoracic spine Fractured cervical spine Pelvis broken in three out of four sections, splitting his pelvis in two Pelvis torn from sacral spine Bladder separated from pelvis causing various damage to his internal organs Broken femur Broken ribs Internal bleeding for several days These injuries incapacitated Chris for the next few months. He is immobile and unable to bear weight on his pelvis for eight weeks or more. His femur will take approximately twelve weeks to heal, at which time he will require extensive physical therapy to allow him to safely walk again. The greatest news is that he survived a trauma that most people would not have the trauma team let us know and secondarily he will walk again and be able to make a full recovery. Chris has already come so far after spending almost three weeks at UC in first the Surgical ICU, then the trauma step down unit. He then transferred to Anderson Mercy Acute Rehabilitation Center for physical therapy to get him somewhat mobile without the use of his legs while his pelvis is given rest to heal. They were remarkable in their care and swift training to assist the family in learning how to care for Chris during his recovery. Krissy, Chris’s wife has been forced to take an unpaid leave of absence to care for Chris. Hoping to have a job to return too. Luckily family and friends have helped see them through this difficult time. But chris can’t work. insurance is running out bills are stacking up. And surprise we have been told the man who hit him doesn’t have insurance. That is still being investigated. The man in the car was sited but that can’t help this family with medical bills home expenses. So please find it in your heart to help them. We will give weekly updates on Chris’s recovery. It’s going to be a long road for Chris, his wife and their kids.
