Hi friends, my husband and I are retired and living on a fixed income. In addition to trying to pay our bills and put food on our table, we also take care of a colony of feral cats that live in our backyard. Normally, we can just squeak by. We don't eat well, but the cats always do, which I think is important. Yesterday our neighborhood got hit with almost 8 inches of rain in about 4 hours. The sewers just couldn't keep up, and the next thing we knew we had a good foot of water in our basement. Our basement is our storage space for us and the cats alike. We had everything raised on milk crates, in giant Tupperware type tubs. Due to the water coming in from the sewer so rapidly, almost every single tub turned over, and got filled with muddy sewer water. I went to try and start washing clothes, blankets and whatever else we could salvage, and our washing machine decided it couldn't handle the weight and conked out. We can barely afford laundry detergent, and now it looks like we may need a new washer. We have insurance, but not for flooding. We've lost so much, it's heartbreaking. Including all our cat stuff, and holiday things and stored items. We're trying to squeegee off the floor, and we're putting things in our backyard to dry. It's an absolute nightmare, and it's killing us to throw out so much of our lives. My husband sells items on Ebay, and while we saved some of that, a lot of it was lost too. We're trying to take care of everything ourselves, and it's not working out too well. It doesn't help any that we have no hot water, either. The water heater will hopefully be okay, once we can get some one out here to help us take the face off of it. Does anyone know anything about them? There's no telling how much we'll get charged to have a pro come out. If anyone can help us out in any way, it would be so appreciated. Our cats are all ok, and that was the most important thing. But we're really going to be in a deep hole, and very quickly. We both hate to ask for help from anyone. Neither of us were brought up like that. But now, we're in serious trouble and I'm making a plea for help. If anyone can help us and the cats out, it would be such a relief.
