I'm excited to announce that I'll be running the New York Marathon for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC team! I have been a part of BBBS NYC for the past 3 years. This organization has had an incredible impact on my life - I've formed lifelong friendships, had remarkable experiences, and made an impact on my community. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this organization which means so much to me. I decided to apply to become a Big Sister after my dad passed away in October 2019. He was an incredible role model my entire life. There was nothing that I couldn't do in his eyes if I set my mind to it. No goal or dream of mine was unobtainable to him - in fact, he always encouraged me to think bigger. When I first picked up running, I never thought I would be attempting a race on this level, but my dad would have pictured me running a marathon from the start. I know how important it is to not just have a role model but a cheerleader and close confidant in your life. I hoped to be that type of role model to someone, too. In October 2024, I was matched with my Little Sister Desire. It's been an honor to be a part of her life over the past few years. Being able to witness her growth and achievements at such a young age has been an inspiration. We've had countless adventures around the city from paint classes to museum visits to trying new cuisines. She reminds me of the importance of having fun and being a kid at heart. Although I am supposed to mentor her, the lessons I've learned from being her Big Sister are incomparable. I've also been a member of the Young Professionals Committee focused on increasing awareness of BBBS's efforts and fundraising for the organization. The YPC members are leaders in the community and some of my closest friends. The YPC is another large part of why this organization has made such an impact on my life. BBBS NYC is working to inspire the next generation of leaders and I am honored to be a part of it. Thank you again for contributing to this cause. I hope to see you in November!
