Who we are: Hello! My name is Anna Chewter and I am a board member for Beauty for Ashes Uganda (BFAUG), an NGO registered in Uganda and based in Jinja and Budondo, Busoga. Beauty for Ashes UG supports local teen mothers by providing them with valuable job training, allowing them to earn a livelihood for themselves and their families. Beyond this BFAUG does what it can for these mothers and their children to cover medical costs, provide food for malnourished children, and offer a kids club providing learning, mentorship, sports, and lunch. BFAUG was founded in 2012 by Aaron Kirunda and Johnson Kawanguzi, two faithful men from Busoga who are passionate about this cause. While Johnson now lives in the US, Aaron continues to lead BFAUG from Jinja, while Johnson supports from afar. BFAUG continues to survive largely because of Aaron's incredible dedication to these teen mothers' wellbeing and his hard work to support the cause financially, as well at Johnson's contributions from the US. This has been a tremendous effort that is ultimately unsustainable. Johnson and I, as Aaron's friends, recognise the stress this places on Aaron in particular, and we are hoping to alleviate this strain so that he can focus more energy on actually running BFAUG's programs, secure pay for the trainers he employs, support his own foster children, and so much more. Those who know Aaron know that he is an incredibly good and special person who has given his life to support people in Jinja. His passion for Uganda and its people is evident through the time and effort he makes. It is truly a 24/7 endeavour. During my (Anna) last visit to Jinja in 2024, I watched Aaron constantly running around town (and beyond) to do his work as a social worker, participate in local government, support his foster children and sisters, lead BFAUG, and support endless other non-profits, local people working for good, and local institutions. He is a thoughtful and intelligent individual who is truly a shining light helping others. As someone who has studied development and non-profits in particular, I am happy to support BFAUG because it is led locally by Ugandans themselves who understand the context they work in, can speak and connect to the people they serve, and who are incredibly well connected to bring together so many of the resources they need. Those of us in the US and beyond can help to keep BFAUG going and foster this life-changing work. The financial resources we are able to offer can go a long way in sustaining BFAUG and I humbly ask you to consider giving even a little. It truly makes a difference. What we are asking for: 8000 USD total. This is an amount that will support BFAUG for an entire year and includes the costs necessary to register BFAUG in the US, which will enable us to begin a sponsorship program and become sustainable in the long term. Besides this, $8000 will cover government paperwork filing fees in Uganda, website renewal, salaries, rent, electricity, materials for hair dressing, machine repairs, tailoring materials, stationary, transportation, medical costs for mothers and children served, booster porridge for malnourished children, and kids club FOR A YEAR, giving us the time we need to get a sponsorship program up and running. While putting together this budget, I collected costs from Aaron and Johnson. Aaron asked for no salary for himself or even transportation expenses, however we (Anna and Johnson) have taken it upon ourselves to include both of those expenses for him in the budget. Aaron works full time for BFAUG along with his other roles and should be compensated, not only for his sake, but for the sake of BFAUG's sustainability. For a more detailed break down of these expenses, please contact me on this LFEBridge site. We are incredibly grateful for your time and consideration, and ask that you thoughtfully review our request.
