Project Afghanistan 2024 In September, I will be travelling for a month to Afghanistan, my birth country. Afghanistan is a country that has been devastated by war over the past 45 years and is now subject to the hardships of the Taliban Government. So, what does Afghanistan look like now, two years after the return of the Taliban? While security for many Afghans has improved, the rights of women and girls are largely curtailed. There is growing poverty among the population and 28 million people are still in need of urgent assistance, of which 6 million are at risk of famine. For more detailed information about the current situation in Afghanistan, please see UNICEF’s Humanitarian Situation Report 2024 of Afghanistan. I will be visiting Afghanistan with my father after 20 years since we left the country to visit our family. This journey is very special in itself to us. However, in light of the current situation, I’m also initiating a fundraiser within ABN AMRO (as well as outside) to support the less fortunate people of Afghanistan. The money collected from this fundraising will be used to purchase basic necessity goods and food packages for those who need it the most. I will personally purchase and distribute food packages to the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan. For the avoidance of doubt: all my travel expenses will be paid by myself and all donations (100%) will be used for the intended cause. Here is how you can participate and make a difference: 1. Money donations: even a small donation can have a meaningful impact. a. As an indication of the food prices in Afghanistan: for EUR 60,- you can provide food to a family of 3-5 for a whole month. 2.
