My name is Barbara McVeigh and I live in California. I had been working on a film project about Gaza when I met Rami Eisa of Gaza who has currently taken refuge in Australia after his life was threatened in Gaza due to the Israeli bombardment. What he and his family have endured is truly beyond words. This fundraiser is created to help him and his family get back on their feet. Funds will be used to help his family with living expenses and will be directly sent to them from me, as host of this fundraiser. Rami Eisa is a Gazan refugee who is also a father of three small beautiful children and a devoted husband. His family has gone through a level of misfortune that most of us could hardly imagine, due to wars and conflicts. We are here to support him and his family as they struggle to get their lives stable again and ensure their children know that we stand with them. Starting with the Kuwait War in 1991, Rami was separated from his Gazan father and Egyptian mother for the first three years of his life and raised by his aunt in Egypt, as his parents were working in Kuwait. Later they moved to Gaza where his father had founded a media company. Rami learned media production and joined his family business which supported international media companies covering issues in Gaza. However, their offices have literally been destroyed three times since 2008. The most recent Israeli bombardment for the last 8 months in Gaza forced them to flee for their lives and, with luck, take refuge in Australia. Rami and his family hope to eventually return to Gaza, his home. We want to support him and see him take back his family’s media business, as Rami is a gifted production and media professional who has supported many Gazan and international journalists, filmmakers, artists, families, farmers and storytellers during his career and with his father’s efforts. Until then, however, Rami and his family need help getting by this next year as they stabilize their lives. I have had the pleasure to meet Rami and his wonderful family in Australia. I also have complete confidence that he and his family, with support, will rise again, to create value for the people of Gaza and beyond. His story will serve as inspiration for us all. Will you contribute to help Rami and his family and take a stand with them? This was their news story right when they arrived in Australia.
