Hellooooo all, The reason I've been a bit quiet this summer is that I found out at the beginning of May that I had cancer in my womb. I feel very lucky that it was caught so early and hadn't spread. However, the first line of treatment for this type of cancer is a total hysterectomy (removal of womb, ovaries, tube and cervix) and that's what happened on the 6th July! Fortunately I was able to have this done with keyhole surgery, meaning less time needed for recovery. I love the NHS!!! I'm just waiting on the all clear to confirm I'm cancer-free and won't need further treatment. I've been in recovery a month now, nearly there... just have to stay sensible for a few more weeks. (Definitely no heavy lifting!) Why the crowd funder? As a self employed celebrant, through having to take almost 2 months off, I lost the income I would have made during this period (and can't claim Statutory Sick Pay). If I had savings, I'd have used them but the truth is that they've been wiped out several times over - through leaving my teaching career to retrain as a celebrant, then being self employed in the wedding industry during a global pandemic (!) and finally more recently by going into debt after coming out, with the cost of separation. Soooooo, I was wondering if some of my friends, family and fellow wedding peeps might essentially have a 'whip round' in the form of this fundraiser to help me recover some of the income I lost this summer? A tenner would be much appreciated! (On a positive note, if this had happened a month earlier during my busiest month of this year, I'd have REALLY been screwed, but I was fortunate that my July and early August happened to be very light in bookings!) Please please please *don't* donate if you've already been generous enough to treat me to a pressie... or are struggling financially yourself at the moment. (There are plenty of fundraisers that I've not donated to this year for that reason!) A story share on Instagram would be much appreciated though :-) Massive thanks to celebrant Emily for stepping in for me... and also big thanks to my couples for being so lovely and supportive during this period. I've got two lovely Liverpool weddings at the end of August to look forward to, getting me back on track <3 Thanks on advance for any donations or shares. Loads of love, Sophie xxx Ps. The photo was taken at Cassie and Chris's fab wedding at the Mansion House in Calderstones Park in June. While the drinks reception was going on, the GAWJ bouquets were kept out of the way on the steps and I couldn't resist grabbing a few of them for a colourful photo!!
