Hi, my name is Joe and I'm fundraising for a person that is like a brother to me. Sheehan has spent the past 30+ years teaching special needs elementary students in the San Diego Unified School District. But his story goes back even further to July 1981 when his life was changed forever. One month after graduating from Acalanes HS, Sheehan broke his neck while diving into his family's pool and has been a quadriplegic ever since. The amazing thing is that he did not let being in a wheelchair keep him from living his life. Sheehan was one of the first people to play wheelchair rugby, now an Olympic sport. He's surfed, skied, and skydived. He has beat the odds to even live so long while being in a chair for over 40 years. But 40 years in a chair has also come with many health challenges, the most recent is a broken leg due to an accident in his chair. He's spent countless weeks in the hospital over the past few years and is in the hospital this week awaiting another operation. This year he retired from teaching and was in the middle of building a new home that is more suited for a wheelchair but due to hospital stays and bills, he needs funds to complete the home. The funds will be used for: Finish the interior including flooring, cabinets and plumbing Concrete work around the house to ensure safe entry for his wheelchair Medical bills I am reaching out to my friends, who I know many are also friends of Sheehan, to ask for help in getting him into this new home. Any amount will help and be very much appreciated. Thank you, Friends of Sheehan
