Hi, my name is Sam and I live on The Rushes. I work for NWAS - North West Ambulance Service and look after thousands of community public access defibrillators (CPADS) within the North West. After discussions with some neighbours on the Rosebay estate, we (Sue, Fiona and me) want to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator that will be available to everyone who lives on the estate, any family and friends that visit and any passers by! It will also cover beyond the estate, up to a 400 meter radius. The defibrillator will be in a locked cabinet and the code will be made available by calling 999 in an emergency situation. A defibrillator is only required when a person is not conscious and not breathing (or have ineffective breathing) although the 999 call taker may sometimes send a caller to access a defib, when a patient is showing signs of a heart attack also. We live in a beautiful, picturesque town however due to the rural locality, it may take an ambulance quite a while to reach us! Ambulances are allocated to incidents in busier areas and leave the quieter towns, like Chapel en le Frith, with no immediate emergency cover. Which is why it is prevalent to have this emergency device accessible within minutes, to give the patient the best chance of survival. Every minute that passes for a person in cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 10%. The quicker CPR is commenced and a defibrillator is brought to the patient and used, the higher the chance of survival and better the outcome will be. We have been offered two large donations already, which is amazing! The cost of the equipment, defibrillator & cabinet is £1440. Then there are extra costs for installation by a qualified electrician and ongoing maintenance. Which is why our target is £1750. Any contribution will be gratefully received towards this worthy cause, hopefully we may never need it but it’s reassuring to know we have one
