Hi, my name is Donna Case Kelleher and I am fundraising for our friend Robert Fidler (Graded class of 1978). As you may know, Bob, or Mongo, to us in the know, survived a long stormy night pinned under his roof when a neighboring tree fell on his home July 10, 2024 in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. Ten inches of rain fell in two hours and the tree, four feet in diameter, slammed down in the middle of the night. The first thing Bob realized was that he needed air so he began bench pressing the rafters off of himself. Little by little, over six and a half hours, Bob lifted the rafters, broke through drywall, and dragged himself into fresh air to wait for help to arrive. In the morning his neighbors realized that he was probably under the massive canopy of the tree and called for help. The fire rescue and paramedics freed him from what remained of his home and transported him to the hospital. Miraculously Bob, although thoroughly bruised, had no broken bones. The weight of the tree and the roof rafters injured Bob's hips and knees and he is now on the schedule for a double hip replacement and two knees in the future. The flood of relief and gratitude Bob has to be alive is now tempered by the reality that he has lost most of his possessions and more seriously his home. Thankfully, a friend has loaned Bob a camper and Bob is living in it on his home site. We all know that Bob is a retired journeyman carpenter, a veteran, and enormously resourceful and that he has always helped others without wavering. This fundraiser will help Bob to rebuild his home post haste. Please join me in sharing this story so that Bob can get his foundation, walls, and roof completed before winter arrives in Pennsylvania. Bob and I will keep you updated with progress photos. Thank you so much for your kindness, donation, and care!
