My name is salim sagar owner of 5 more fitness and the wellness camp this is the story of how my heart has been moved by this crisis: as I drive towards my steak dinner I look to my right and see hundreds of people lying in the streets in front of a shelter. Confused I stopped my truck and decided to investigate. I realized these were all refugees that were brought here and left without any support. Not even being able to check into a homeless shelter (because they are all over capacity) not knowing where else to go or having any friends, family or even knowing their way around they are forced to make camp on the pavement out front using cardboard for mattress and plastic for blankets it would be an understatement to say I was horrified I decided to do something! I walked up to the ones that were awake told them to keep quiet while I handed out 20 dollar bills they were unable to contain the excitement and before I knew it I was surrounded scared but invigorated I handed out all I could and got back in my truck. I knew I was coming back and I did so with a big load this time instead of going out on foot I set up in the bed of the pickup with a mountain of chicken granola bars fruits and gatorades again the feeling was invigorating and the appreciation and love pouring out from these people couldn’t even be put into words. Needless to say I’ve been back everyday since bringing a loads of groceries clothes tents slippers shoes and sleeping bags in fact it’s 3 am and I’m here with them as I type this. 1 of the gentleman opened up to me , he was sent here sponsored by his uncle to avoid the kidnappings that happen all to often in his country by the time he landed in Canada tried to reach his uncle there was no answer when he was contacted by family he received news that not only was he all alone with no support but he was sent a picture of his beloved uncle decapitated.. these are the stories these men and woman are seeking ASYLUM from! Help me help them! We may not be able to fix everything at once but we can help make everyday they spend on Canadian soil 1 that they feel safe and cared about! Nobody should be made to feel alone in this world we have each other! they need more tents , more sleeping bags , more shoes , more underwear , more food , more feminine hygiene products/bras , more socks more money for prescriptions help more everything most of all they need us! my father was an immigrant he was taken in by the Salvation I’m sure a lot of you have a similar story and if not can sympathize. Doesn’t matter how big or how small everything counts! thank you in advance the refugees at 129 Peter st.
