Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of 1ST REDBOURN SCOUT GROUP and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. My name is Martin and I’m part of the fundraising committee at Redbourn Scout Group. It was an eye opener joining the committee last year meeting the leaders and seeing the buildings and what conditions they are in currently. All buildings have asbestos roofing that needs removing, quotes are upwards of 13k for the small outbuildings and substantially more for the main building. As you walk across the floor of the main parade building where the activities take place the floor is giving way. It’s wooden with Vinyl covering, this has started to rot and go soft. This is phase 1 of any refurbishing. The dream is to replace the buildings with up to date, fit for purpose new builds but that’s down the line and probably over 450k!!!! let’s see how this goes for the 50k. Question 1. How will funds be used? All money raised will be used by specifically Redbourn Scout Group and it’s their charity number on the page. Money will be used to pay off the costs of the asbestos being removed from the out buildings this summer, the rest will be used for renovations to the main building and asbestos removal from its roof. Question 2. Why do we need to raise funds. Scouting U.K. won’t fund the project as the area we operate from is too affluent. We should try to fund raise from the community is the direction. This is important to me as both of my children are at Scout group in Redbourn. I’ve walked across the hall and don’t think it’s going to continue to be safe if left unfixed. Redbourn Scouting has been a fixture in the village since 1927….!!!!! We need to leave a legacy to the children and a safe space for them to continue learning through activities. Scouting is famous across the world, this years annual meet is in Korea, some of the Redbourn Scouts will be going..!!! This is fantastic for the children to be able to have this support to grow. They just need to have a safe location to do so.
