Hi, my name is Amanda Alamar Ramsay, and as some of you may know, my twin sister, Alexandra, and her partner, Jack, have had a series of terrible accidents over the last few months. This has resulted in two totaled cars, emergency vet bills, missed income, and mounting debt. Here is a short summary of the major events that have befallen them in the last few months, in Alex’s own words: “In April of this year, Jack lost consciousness while driving, and slammed into a guardrail, due to a previously unknown medical condition. The car was completely totaled; Jack spent two nights and the better part of three days in the hospital. It was a terrifying experience, made all the more difficult by the unexpected costs being thrown at us at every turn as we tried to get things handled. For example, when the accident happened, Jack instinctively tried to call me, but was too incapacitated by the accident to even remember we were on the phone, leaving me distraught on the line and the phone on the seat of the crushed car as the paramedics took them away. The hospital allowed us to use the phone in Jack’s room, only to charge us hundreds of dollars in fees for the phone use later. The impact of all of the charges not covered by insurance was compounded by the loss of income from missed work as we got Jack out the hospital and back on their feet. Little did we know at the time, this was only the beginning. Less than two months later, I was hit on the driver’s side of my vehicle, by a 91-year-old driver, as I was making a left turn. Although the other driver was uninjured, and able to drive himself home, my car was totaled, and my left arm was badly hurt. There was no hospital stay necessary after this accident, however, I am continuing to experience immense pain, and am in the process of trying to uncover the true extent of the injury. This accident came with more missed work, lost income, and sudden bills, in addition to the pain, and limitations due to my injury (not to mention the loss of my car). Only a matter of weeks later, as we were still reeling from the accidents, my beloved service dog, Violet, became extremely ill. Violet is trained to wake me up when I am experiencing asthma attacks in my sleep. I am a severe asthmatic, and Violet has become a vital and lifesaving companion to me, as well as a member of our family. Unbeknownst to anyone, Violet had swallowed part of an old chew toy months earlier- her system was trying to expel the foreign object on its own, but the results were bloody vomit, and a stay in the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. After a day of supportive care, antiemetics, and an ultrasound to ensure no other blockages, she was finally able to come home. As anyone who has ever had a pet need to visit or stay in the ER knows, the bills for emergency care can be excruciating, adding even more to worry about during what is already one of the most stressful times imaginable. We would do anything for Violet, she has saved my life more times than I can count.” Facing just one of these trials would have been difficult enough, but the compounding affect has been devastating. The mounting emergency bills have made them unable to replace Alex’s car, further jeopardizing her work. The situation is a snowball of financial crisis caused by events that were completely out of their control. They need help. Back in 2024, Alex left her job, relocated to Arkansas, and organized a LFEBridge, so that she could care for me as I underwent what was ultimately lifesaving treatment. Now I am asking the same community that supported me to come together to help get Alex and Jack (and Violet) back on their feet. If you are able, please help in whatever way you can, through donating, sharing, or both. Thank you so much!
