Hello everyone my name is Evelyn Smith, and my fundraiser is for my house catching on fire on July 13, 2024! My family and I live in Gilbert, Arizona. For the past few days, the temperature outside has been 110-117 degrees. This includes heat advisories and heat waves for 2 weeks. On July 13, 2024, a family member's furniture set caught on fire. The furniture was sitting on the upstairs balcony; which is connected to the master bedroom. The fire was burning for a while and was not noticed until my 12-year-old grandson witnessed flames coming from his mom and dad's room. He alarmed me of the fire and ran downstairs to tell my 91-year-old mother, her caregiver and my son. There were only 2 of my family members inside the house at the time. While my mother's caregiver was escorting her outside to safety. My grandson was grabbing our 2 cats, and my son and I were trying to use fire extinguishers to put the fire out. At that time the fire grew too big for us to put out on our own. Everyone inside the house was all able to escape the house safely. Our neighbors saw smoke coming from our house and called the fire department for us. When the firefighters came the fire in the house had spread all across our roof. Clothes, medicine, debit and credit cards, food and electricity, furniture and more were destroyed in the fire. Right now all 7 of my family members are staying at a hotel. We have little to no money to pay for our hotel rooms. It's 110+ degrees outside and I don't want my 91-year-old mother and family out on the streets with nowhere to stay. The fire department said it might take 8 months to a year to repair our house. My family is desperate for your help!!! We need a place to live and buy food, clothing and new furniture for our new home. PLEASE if you can help us we will truly be grateful for your donations. Thank you so much and God bless your soul!
