Walter Franklin Wilkins, 87 years old. For many, to hear that name brings a confused look to their face. However, when referred to as “Mr. Red,” every local knows exactly who you’re talking about! If you’ve ever visited Long’s Fish Camp, you’ve probably seen him sitting in his old wooden chair right behind that antique cash register. For 45 years he dedicated his time under Bertha Long and the remainder of his time under Troy Smith. He also spent many years as a math teacher in the small town of Stonewall. Mr. Red Wilkins is such an inspiration to our little community, and with all the years he has dedicated to our town, he deserves all the help he can get as our way of giving back. This weekend after talking to Mr. Red, we were informed that he saved up enough to buy 2 tires for his car. He is now starting to save up to be able to afford the other 2 tires. As if that was not enough, he stayed for a few hours to enjoy our air conditioning because the window unit in his house went out. We want to be able to get him his tires as well as a new window unit. Anything short of our goal, we have decided as a Fish Camp Family that we would chip in what we can to cover the costs. Even if it’s not much, we ask for those in our community who are able, to give what your heart calls you to give. Our Long’s Fish Camp Family
