Hi, My name is Michele and currently my daughter and I are homeless, funding that I thought would have come through by now has not. We are currently staying at a hotel in Providence hoping something more permanent comes along while we wait for a housing voucher or an apartment that I can afford to become avaliable. Our story started over 2 years ago when I suddenly became a single mom overnight. We were living in an apartment in North Providence and thanks to the Rent Relief program set up during COVID we were able to stay there with the help of my lawyer. I quickly returned to the workforce after 15 years and got a job part time at Target which I still hold today. This wasn't an easy thing for me to do as I have Multiple Sclerosis and the one thing MS "feeds" off of is stress. The amount of stress I have been under for almost 3 years is unimaginable!!! My Dr's are amazed I'm standing never mind functioning. In July 2024 we finally had to leave our apartment and without anywhere to go (I had put my name on every list for Section 8) and thankfully a friend, another MS warrior graciously opened her house up to Zoe & I. During the past year I have called, checked, called again, looked into every program I found out about, but I find myself still homeless. Recently we left our friends home after a year (this was a mutual decision) and still we haven't been able to secure housing despite being on several lists for Section 8, Low-Income Housing and various shelter lists through Crossroads RI. As of now we are staying in a hotel but I can't afford to do that long term. Any help that is given will be used to stay at a hotel while I keep trying to secure a home for the children & I..
