As a group of local residents, we have significant concerns about the options presented by Council regarding a possible redevelopment of Maling Road between Bryson Street and Canterbury Road. A number of the most significant concerns relate to the impacts on traffic flows and pedestrian safety in the local area if this section of Maling Road was to be limited to oneway traffic (Council's Option 1) and also whether the Cardno traffic report supplied by Council adequately addressed these issues. Therefore, we thought it essential to commission an expert and independent review from a specialist traffic engineering group and we engaged Trafficworks to undertake this work. Their report dated 4 July 2024 raises several significant concerns about Option 1 and also about certain aspects of the Cardno Report. The Traffiworks Report can be accessed via this LINK TO TRAFFICWORKS REPORT. We forwarded a copy of this report to relevant Council executives last week and we will meet with them this week. We will also send a copy of this report and other material to Councillors in the near future. The cost of the Trafficworks Report was $2,222 (including GST) and we are seeking contributions towards these costs from other concerned residents. If total contributions exceed this amount we will hold the balance for a short period in case other related costs need to be incurred. However, after that, we will account for all expenditure, donate any remaining funds to the Red Cross and forward the receipt to contributors. If you require any further information or have any questions please contact Ken Spence ([email redacted]) or Dianne Peck ([email redacted]).
