DONATE

My wife Michelle and I are devastated to have to put up another fundraiser for our sweet girl, Idgie. Her IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) has presented itself again and as I am typing this she is in surgery at the Toronto Animal Health Partners hospital. As the vet today told us, there is nothing we could have done differently to prevent this issue for her, it is genetic and due to breeding. Of course, this is little consolation to us, though we know we do treat and care for her very well. As those of you who know us know, Idgie is our baby. We do not have proper human children but Idgie fills that role for us. She means the world to us. The past week's progression from mildly distressed and uncomfortable to not being able to support herself with her hind left leg this morning has been very stressful. Today has been a gut punch. Not only are we reeling from all the emotions of having to leave our little weiner-child in a place that terrifies her for two or more days, the thought of her in surgery and our own guilt (however unwarranted, as the vet said) but to then have been hit with the price of this surgery (which has gone up about 35% since her last one in 2018) has us both numb and nauseous. The amount we've set for our goal…despite knowing how kind and giving people in our world are… we do not expect to reach. Even if we do, it will still not cover the cost of surgery (and physiotherapy she will need) even after the meagre portion her insurance will cover, but it will certainly lessen the burden. THAT BEING SAID, EVERY BIT DONATED HELPS SO MUCH. We have no end of appreciation for all the people who reached out to us, sent wishes and donated last time. We hope that friends, family and strangers will be able to help us again this time around, five years later. Thank you in advance from the bottom of all three of our hearts. Billy, Michelle and Lil Miss Idgie Pipsqueek.
