So I live in an area of London where it's one big community of different ages, races, social-economic standings, sexual orientations, etc. All living together in a big ol' melting pot of music, joy, and love (most of the time). It's great. I also know many of the local independent shopkeepers - their lives, their stories, their families - and indeed many have become friends. This is where Safi comes in. Safi, and his friends and family, run a general store next to where I live. They're all beautiful, generous souls. Recently, Safi's brother died, and when he returned from the funeral abroad, he found out that his home had burnt down, effectively making him homeless for a while. As he was telling me this in his store, showing me pictures on his phone of his scorched and sintered home, he had customers come in, somewhat demanding where certain items where. Safi's response was "yes brother/sister, let me show you". I work in trauma, and what Safi went through must have been MASSIVELY overwhelming. And yet there he was, putting his own issues aside to serve others. Safi is a saint. He's a good, good man. And what happened to him really sucks. I believe Safi needs a break, or help, or something to honour his wonderful soul. Hence this fundraiser. And in many respects this is more than just about Safi. This is about sacred reciprocity, and helping each other out in times of need. For my personal belief is that we are all connected; therefore helping another is helping oneself, and vice versa. Please donate whatever you can. Sending love, Liam x
