Hello, everyone I write my children and I story with a heavy heart. On April 6, 2024, I welcomed a baby girl. I have 4 minor children. Since 2024, my children and I have been living in deplorable housing for almost 2 years. I am a single mother of four minor children. My eldest daughter has a disability and my son was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2024, On days he is unable to walk and I act as his nurse daily. Currently, I am on FMLA from DCPS (Family Medical Leave of Absence) Maternity leave without pay. I have exhausted all of my funds and savings. I lost everything from water damage and rodents. Currently, I am suffering from post-partum depression and was hospitalized on April 12, 2024, for chronic hypertension. I was admitted for stroke-like symptoms. On June 1, 2024, Channel 7 News aired my story about living in deplorable housing. Currently, I have a roof leak, roaches in my entire unit, refrigerator, and mice in my baby crib which is 3 months she has been bitten in her face and arms. My baby was diagnosed with environmental allergies in May 2024. She's only surviving in the current unit I am living in with the assistance of a breathing machine. My entire savings are gone from paying out of pocket for medication, food, gas and survival needs for my children and me. I was awarded my federal voucher through DCHA once my story was published through Channel 7 News. I have found placement I can not afford my security deposit of $4753. I am asking for any donation or just an extended prayer. I am scared I will wake up and my baby will die from the environment. I can move into the new placement by 9/1/2024, with a paid security deposit. DCHA will pay 100% of my rent. I am only responsible for my security deposit. I am formley a Special Education Teacher for DCPS. I applied for the maternity leave bank in February 2024. And was not awarded funds due to miss placement of my paperwork.
