Mark Spencer, age 69, was lost too early. Born on May 10th, 1954, Mark was a longtime resident of Rome and went on to graduate as a member of RFA’s class of 1972. He raised his family in Rome, including both of his daughters and specifically his son who I have known personally since childhood. Five years ago he went on to become a California resident, however has remained an integral piece of the Rome community. On May 31st, 2024, Mark was passing through Wikieup, Arizona—He was southbound on US93 between mile marker 121 and 120 when he was fatally struck by an 18 wheeler. He was on his way back to Rome, the accident being labeled a hit and run. Jim, a close friend of mine, has struggled significantly over the passing weeks with trying to find justice for his father’s life ending accident. The emotional hardship and grieving process during such a period of hurt and sorrow is unimaginable, not to mention the financial strain of attempting to acquire the answers that have proven so difficult with the nature of the accident. To see not only a friend, but a member of our community who was born and raised here in Rome, go through such a traumatic experience is something so heartbreaking. I find myself profoundly grateful to call Jim a friend, his diligence and dedication during his father’s passing is something so incredibly admirable. His story should be heard. I’m asking that anyone with the means to help aid in assisting Jim will both share and consider donating to help in his process of gaining any and all information and justice in his father’s accident. Any little bit helps tremendously in such trying times. Rest In Peace Mark Spencer. He will be missed by many.
