Hello, my name is Crystal and I am trying to raise money to help with my 15 year old niece Jayda's recovery. On Monday night, July 3rd, I got a call that no family member wants to wake up to. It was my mom on the line and I could instantly tell there was something terribly wrong. She told me that Jayda had been in an accident and that I needed to come to the ER. Anyone that knows my small family knows that we are all extremely close. I raced to the ER as fast as I could. When I got there, my mom and my sister were standing outside waiting for me. They were both in a state of shock and disbelief. My mom let me know that Jayda had been in a rollover accident and that her hand was underneath the vehicle which had severed her fingers on her left hand. As you can imagine it was a very emotional and scary time for us all. None of us knew what was going to happen or where she would be going for surgery. A couple of hours later, Jayda and her mom Kayla were airlifted to Helan Devoss Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My mom and dad immediately drove down to meet them. The next morning, Tuesday July 4th, as most families were preparing to celebrate the holiday, my family was waiting for Jayda to get out of surgery and for the doctors to give us any glimpse of hope that she would regain full use of her dominant hand and fingers. The doctors let my family know that Jayda did well in surgery however we now have to wait to see what the outcome will be as no one can say with any certainty that she will regain any specific amount of use in her hand or fingers. Time will tell. I am starting this Go Fund Me to help with Jayda's recovery. She has a long road ahead of her and many, many more appointments with surgeons and doctors once she is released from the children's hospital. As many know, in the Upper Penisula, we have to travel for pretty much anything that we need and especially specific medical care. My sister and niece will need help with gas expenses, on the go meals, possible lodging expenses, any uncovered medical expenses. My sister will have to be away from work a lot to make sure that my niece gets the best care possible and I want to make sure that she has a bit of help so that she can focus her attention on her daughter rather than worrying about bills and how she will pay for things when she is unable to be at work as much as she was used to. We are also asking for prayers, positive vibes, and thoughts, while we wait to see what the outcome will be. I have set up an account at the Manistique Federal Credit Union in Manistique if anyone would rather donate directly. The account is under my name, Crystal Martin. And the account is named Jayda Casey's Recovery. Any donations will be greatly appreciated by our family. Any donations that are above what is needed will go directly to Jayda for future use. We appreciate all of the messages, texts, and calls pouring in to check on Jayda and if we haven't gotten back to you please keep an eye on this page as I will try to keep it updated as often as I get updates. Again, thank you all!
