Hi, my name is Jakie (Samba) Samb and I am raising funds for my father, Assane Samb and his family. Assane was an innocent victim of the recent violent protests in Dakar in May 2024 that started over a land dispute over the in the commune of Ngor, where he lives. On May 9, the neighborhood of Ngor was cordoned off in the morning by the gendarmes, who restricted all access and prevented the inhabitants from leaving. During the day, they fired bullets at demonstrators, according to testimonies received by Amnesty International and videos watched. Some of the inhabitants of the village, angered over the show of force by the government and the perceived collusion of the large private sector actors in the community, burned some private property near the large tourist hotel in Ngor. Assane stored his hobie cat, jet ski, and car in a small garage next to the hotel, but he has no association with that hotel. The anger prompted the villagers to burn anything that they associated with the hotel, and Assane's small storage unit was burned. Assane earns his living providing lessons/renting out his hobie cat and jet ski, and uses his car to transport them between various tourist beaches. All of these items were burned and completely destroyed. All in all, he lost roughly $11,500 worth of equipment (jet ski: $3,000; hobie cat $4,000; car $4,500) as well as any means to earn money for his family, including his wife and 11 year old son (my step-brother). I am helping my father and his family as best I can, but I need support to help him rebuild his small business and restore his dignity to be able to care for his family independently. All funds raised will go directly to my father and his family. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help you can provide. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be put to very good use by my father. Many thanks for your generosity. Jakie/Samba
