Please help fund my Eagle Scout project to add a Bike Repair Station at Acton’s NARA Park along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail! The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (BFRT) is a bike path built along a former rail bed. When fully completed, the trail will seamlessly link Acton with seven nearby communities. Since the opening of the six mile long Acton branch in April 2018, biking for commuting and recreation in the town has increased significantly. But if you were to have a flat tire or a loose chain, there are currently no bike repair stations on the BFRT in Acton. For my Eagle Scout project I will install an outdoor, commercial-grade, bike repair station at the NARA park juncture of the BFRT, mile 8.6, near a popular rest area on the trail. The station location ensures that riders using the trail have an easy place to access all the essential tools needed to keep their bikes in good repair. Additionally, the NARA Park location is close to the bike pump track installed as part of a previous Troop 1 Eagle Scout project and creates a network of bike repair stations by complimenting the one installed further down the trail in Concord, another Eagle Scout project. The repair station will be permanently installed and will include Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, and a bike pump to assist in on-the-trail bike repairs. A commercial-grade station is built to last and will withstand the pressure of heavy use (and abuse). However it is a costly item and that is why I am seeking your generous support to fund the project. All contributions will be used to directly support the purchase and installation of the bike repair station. This will include the repair station cost and shipping charges, construction of the cement foundation, and any tools needed to construct and assemble the project. Any funds leftover will be donated back to the Town of Acton to support the long-term maintenance of the repair station. Additionally, after the station is installed, I will include an instructional label on the bike repair station to show users how to use the station. I also will include a web link/QR code to online repair instructions to demonstrate common bike repairs. My project is already in progress and will be completed by August 31, 2024. Cycling is a fantastic outlet for all principles of scouting. It is a great method of practicing physical fitness, it is a wonderful way to experience the outdoors, and it is a very sustainable form of transportation. This station helps to meet the frequent need of bikers on the trail and makes biking more accessible by enabling all bikers to make a quick repair and continue on the trail. Thank you for your kind consideration of supporting my project.
