Growing up in the entertainment business, the term “pass the hat” is common among artists and performers for tips. Unfortunately it’s my time to swallow my pride, ask for help. Ask for a pass the hat. Tuesday afternoon I was admitted to the hospital with an infection leading to sepsis. I was deeply sick when I came in. The ER did a good job to band-aid me and start the healing process. They admitted me for observation and by Tuesday night I was crashing again. High Fever, Stroke level BP, High Heart Rate, my Asthma flared and the Doctor was worried I was beginning to go from Sepsis to Sepsis Shock. They started a different regimen of treatment and teetered on sending me to the ICU. I never get scared, friends, but that night I literally was having thoughts of impending doom and I truly felt I was going to die. My oxygen levels weren’t holding and kept falling into the 70s. I was worried about being intubated. However, amazing work from amazing staff helped me break my fever. Wednesday I had an upswing and continued into Thursday, though still very short of breath. However last night my blood pressure again spiked into the 200s/130s and continued into this morning, causing me to feel sick all over again and retaining water. So it’s been a rollercoaster. We now have my blood pressure with a change in meds, a bit better under control. Still do not have the faintest idea of when I’ll be discharged as I write this from the hospital bed. Through all this, I’ve missed my shifts at work and I have no sick or vacation time to use. I have expenses coming up within these next couple weeks and I’d like to be able to heal without having to worry about also overworking myself with overtime to make up a full week of work. If you can donate anything, please know it would be heavily appreciated by myself and my family. And if you can’t? Please share and pass the hat. Thank you and much appreciated, Jocelyn.
