Mission Of "I Can Read So I Can Lead " Asil Greer is a 10-year-old entrepreneur from the city of Philadelphia. He is an avid reader who has made it his mission to selflessly promote the significance of reading and literacy to children of all ages around his hometown with hopes to reach children on a global scale. Asil loves to compete in oratorical competitions where he challenges himself to memorize well-known poems and verses to recite in front of large crowds. At the age of eight, he became a published author writing his first book titled I Can Read So I Can Lead that further pushed his mission to various cities and states. From working on his next book to winning oratorical contests in school Asil seems to be winning at everything in life. His mother, Mecca, dispels the notion that Asil is a model child. “I don’t expect him to be perfect. I welcome his flaws and don’t want him to come off as a great perfect kid. He has struggles too, but we embrace them. And when you embrace some of the things you see your child struggle with it only helps them become a better them”. About the Kidpreneur Asil Greer, author of “I Can Read, So I Can Lead,” was awarded the 2024 Mayor’s Youth Hero Award due to exhibiting leadership through service while promoting literacy in underserved communities. Asil and his peers have produced a commercial at Smith Memorial Playground to champion reading and entrepreneurship. When interviewing Asil, ABC 6 News journalist Matteo Iadonisi, said, “Outside their home stands an orange box labeled, "Sidewalk Library," where children can freely take a book home to read.” Asil created “I Can Read, So I Can Lead,” as a mission to emphasize leadership, bullying, and esteem in reading. Asil’s vision for literacy awareness has reached local and national communities due to his interviews with ABC 6 News and The Philadelphia Inquirer, respectively, as well as his participation in the Las Vegas Coast to Coast Children Authors Book Expo Tour. Asil Greer is a 10-year-old Philadelphia author and orator; he won second place in the 2024 Oratorical Competition at Lotus Academy. Copies of “I Can Read, So I Can Lead” can be purchased by contacting Kwaminah Greer. Avant Garde Bookstore (Atlanta, GA) honored him as the May 2024 Author of the Month after learning about his advocacy for literacy.
