It is with a heavy heart that I express the pain and suffering my friend and I endured on July 30th, 2024 at approximately 5:27 pm in Oakland, ca. I was driving down Bayo, making a U-turn when 2 young men approached my vehicle and told my friend and I to get out of the car. We both fell into a state of shock. That is when I realized the young man had a gun pointed at me while saying "please, please, get out of the car!". The other man proceeded to drag my friend out of the passenger side, punching her as she screamed for help. They sped off down the street, my friend chasing them and I behind her. I immediately called 911 and kept getting no answer. It angers me that in a moment where we need our police, they were not there. After about 30 minutes I was on a call with an officer who took my statement of the incident and said they would be on their way. 20 minutes go by and NO OFFICERS are present! I call back and am met with a dispatcher who has a terrible attitude and is telling me there is nothing I can do but wait, because they are overwhelmed with other duties. Is this what our system has come to? My friend and I are both young, hard-working professionals. I started a cleaning business this year to pay for my bills and support myself. My car has quite literally been my lifeline, as I travel all over the bay to provide for my clients. I am also in school, studying for business. My friend Lacz has a Nanny/Babysitting business where she spends her time nurturing and caring for little ones. She is also in school to become a nurse. We are grateful that we have our lives, and that we were not severely harmed physically. We are reaching out to our community because we need your support. This is the second time I have been robbed at gunpoint in 2 months, and to say the least, it has affected my mental health. I don't want to live in fear and have to monitor my every step but this is the world we live in. The funds donated will go to car expenses, as I will have to get a new car, chiropractic work for my friend and I, and cover rent due to days of work being missed since we work for ourselves and can not replace ourselves in work. Donations will also cover the custodial supplies that were in my car and also other belongings of my friends. Whatever you can donate means the world to both of us.
