My name is Monroe King and I am sole proprietor of our company Nutz n Voltz here in Copperas Cove, Texas. On June 29th 2024 I had been working all night due to the heat and humidity of our central Texas weather we started working threw the night instead of the day. At about 7:30 am I called it a day and headed home. We had a new employee that wanted to stay on and get some more hours in which I agreed to. At about 8:30 am our new hire decided to start a fire without asking for permission in our burn barrel. We never use the burn barrel after March or before October here in Central Texas. I was awakened by pounding on my door at about 10 am the pounding was VERY loud so I sprang up to see who it was. I opened the door there was no one there and without my glasses on it looked like it was snowing outside! The ground was covered with white snow and then I heard it! The crackling and roaring of a fire ripping it's way threw the cedar trees of which there are many on our property. There are 3 Chevy Volts in front of me a Red one a White one and to the side a Sliver one which is my daily driver and the original Volt that started all this. I jumped straight off the steps got in and drove the Silver one to the street. I could hear people yelling and screaming and saw some neabors trying to use a garden hose on the fire. I ran back to get the Red Volt there was nothing but the red and white Volts between my house and the fire. I jumped into the red one and drove it to the street it had been slightly singed on the passenger front but not too badly. I ran back to get the white one. Into an inferno! It was so hot and embers where falling as I reached the door falling on my back and on the ground covered with embers my feet where burning and I got in and I saw threw the trees and the fire that the truck was on fire and at that point I knew it was a total loss. I managed to get the White one out I could not see out the windshield it was covered in ash and embers I got the car to the street and was yelling to stop using the garden hose and start beating the fire back with blankets or towels because it was so hot that the water vaporized before it even hit the fire. I ran on the street to the other side of the trees to the shop thank God none of the customers cars where in danger. The firetrucks would need a way in to get to the fire though. I had one customer car in the way of that. One that I had to swap the engine and transmission and the done car next to it. Mike from the other shop just arrived and was yelling at me to get in the light blue Volt as he hooked up a tow line and by the time I got in he was dragging me backwards. We got that Volt out into the street just as the firetrucks arrived! I went into the ambulance I was in my underwear and barefooted and they started treating my feet and that was it for me the firemen did their jobs and just as I looked up and saw the smoke turn from black to white I knew that the fire would soon be out. The next thing was the damage the truck no hope there all the tools and personal items in it where gone and that truck had a lot of important tools a welder and my favorite set of golf clubs ever along with a very expensive ham radio and power inverter. The Red Volt had headlight bumper and paint damage and at first I thought the White one had not been too damaged but a couple days later I tried to open the passenger side doors and they wouldn't then I noticed the welting and plastic around the windows and the base of the windshield and the front and rear bumpers and taillights and headlights. Then I opened the hood and idk how it was able to drive out! It should not have because the melted wiring I disabled the battery and have not looked at it since. The wiring to my house and the trailer out back was burnt in the fire so I had no electricity the neabors lent me some extension cords which I have since discovered are $200 a piece I need to get those back to them. I've just about got enough 10-3 wire and have some regular romex out to the trailer but I need some junction boxes. What we are raising funds for is to replace our work truck. We will take whatever funds we raise and get whatever that allows. If we can get that then any funds beyond that will go to replace the welder and other tools we must have a truck though to move vehicles and trailer things around. Insurance yes I have insurance on the shop and to cover my customers cars and to cover my house. There are 3 lots here and the lot the shop is on covers my customers the lot next to that is empty and so it has no insurance and that's where the truch sits the red and white Volts where on the third lot with my home. The truck only had liability insurance which is all I expect to put on whatever truck we can get again. And I don't drive the white or red Volt so they weren't insured either. It's possible but doubtful at this point that the cars will be covered by my home owners insurance. So I'm asking my friend family and customers pr future customers and this group to please help me raise as much as we can for the future of our company! I do not like to ask for help I'm usually the one helping others and for that reason this time I'm allowing it. But if I've spent hours on the phone helping you solve a Volt problem and you got your car going and I never asked you to pay anything. Now would be a great time to return the favor. I've honestly poured a great deal into the Volt community and I hope at this time you guys can help me keep doing that. It stinks that I have to ask but I need it. So I'm asking. And thank you for letting me serve you. We will find a way to keep doing that no matter what.
