I am a volunteer at Dallas Animal Services and run the Dallas Love Bugs community. A dog named Daisy came to my attention today via other volunteers posting about Daisy's human becoming homeless, having no choice but to surrender Daisy to the shelter, and that he is desperately trying to find her a safe place while his family gets back on his feet. I connected with Paul this evening and learned that he, his (6-month pregnant) wife, and his 4-going-on-5-year-old son lost their home and are currently staying at Dallas Life Foundation. They have the support of Family Gateway for 3 months of rent at a new place. However, they are having trouble finding an apartment that will work with them on deposits, fees, and such. Paul and his wife are both autistic. Paul has had jobs driving for Uber/Lyft, at fast food restaurants, and as a security guard. They have lived in the Garland suburb area of Dallas but can live anywhere with easy access to the bus line in Dallas (their current mode of transportation). Good people of the world... this Go Fund Me has 3 big asks! (1) FINANCIAL HELP to support Paul and his family with some cash to get them into a new home (2) RESCUE/FOSTER for Daisy to get out of the shelter, immediately, so she can get back to her family once they are in a home (she is about 8yo, very friendly with people but is not into other dogs) (3) JOB for Paul so that he can feel secure to provide for his family and keep them in the home they find BONUS: Someone who will rent to Paul and his family (and Daisy!) This is the biggest effort / ask I have attempted with my Dallas Love Bugs community and I hope we can holistically help Daisy by helping her family who loves her so and is just panicked about her being vulnerable, at the shelter. #LetsMakeItBetterTogether P.S. This situation is not unique - housing insecurity is a common reason for dogs being surrendered to shelters and rescues. There are programs such as Dallas Pets Alive's PASS program and the national HASS program which work to help families have positive alternatives to shelter surrender (P.A.S.S.). <3
