My sweet, incredible 19yr old daughter Maddie has been diagnosed with Achalasia, a rare and debilitating esophageal disorder. Despite exhaustive efforts to find local medical help, being turned away from every other hospital, referred to one doctor after another, we have learned that the specialized surgery she needs can only be performed by one expert at the Mayo Clinic in phoenix. Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover this out-of-network treatment, and the estimated cost of the surgery and related expenses amounts to $35,000. About Maddie: Maddie is a vibrant, caring, and determined young woman who has dreams and goals of a bright future ahead. Achalasia has drastically impacted her life, making even simple tasks like eating and drinking an excruciating challenge. Despite facing daily struggles she continues to maintain a positive outlook and never loses hope, that’s my girl! About Achalasia: Achalasia is a rare esophageal disease that affects the ability of the esophagus to move food and liquids into the stomach. This condition leads to severe pain, the feeling of a heart attack, difficulty swallowing, and malnutrition, severely impacting the quality of life. Maddie has been fighting this battle for over a year now, and the time has come for her to finally undergo the life-changing surgery she desperately needs.
