Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my story. My name is Sam Read, I am 18 years old and am writing to you with the hope of gaining support from you to help me fund an opportunity I have worked very hard towards; representing Team GB at the IPF Powerlifting World Championships in Romania this August. I was born and have always lived in Scarborough. I attended Seamer and Irton Primary School, and Lady Lumleys Secondary School before completing my studies at York College. Sports have always remained a huge focus in my life, beginning with competitive scooter riding as a child where I first learnt the meaning of bettering and challenging myself. I also used to play football for Seamer FC and rugby for Scarborough’s first team as well as enjoying kickboxing and karate. As soon as I was old enough to attend a local gym, I took up boxing. The inner drive and discipline boxing taught me led me to discover Powerlifting, where I finally found my true passion and after a short period I began competing. My first competition was the 25th of June 2024 where I placed second and qualified to compete at a national level. Then at Nationals in Birmingham this April, I walked away the strongest Under 83kg Sub-Junior from England of all time. Additionally, over my first year of Powerlifting, I have broken 4 Yorkshire records and I cannot wait to see where my growth takes me next. A year after my first competition on the 25th of June 2024, I was invited to train with Team GB at the Gymshark Lifting Club and after impressing the coaches, I was formally invited to represent Team GB on the 31st of August at the IPF Powerlifting World Championships in Cluj Napoca, Romania. The IPF World Championships are the biggest Powerlifting competition in the world, it is considered the Olympics of Powerlifting. Competing with the strongest people on the planet will allow me to gain more experience and identify how I can implicate this into my own future successes. As I only turned 18 in June, I am struggling to independently fund this trip. I have reached the peak of my performance in the UK which is why I am reaching out to seek your help to take my abilities to the worldwide level. I am also fundraising to maximise my budget, alongside working 2 jobs tirelessly as a lifeguard at Cayton Bay Holiday Park and North Yorkshire Water Park. I would be beyond grateful if you could consider any help, no matter how small, towards my sponsorship. Kind Regards, Sam Read
