On July 9, at 6:00 PM, a fire broke out in my sister (Sabrina) and brother-in-law (Eliezer) 's home. They were not home at the time of the incident, but their beloved dog (Butter) was. A neighbor heard the smoke detector going off and called 911. The firefighters broke into their unit through the living room and kitchen windows. Butter was rescued, administered oxygen, and rushed to the Animal Hospital. After a series of tests and exams, Butter did not need to stay in the hospital overnight but was under observation for the entire week due to the possibility of having lung damage. We are glad that Butter, Sabrina, and Eliezer were spared (Daniel 3:17-25) and are physically safe and together. However, the aftermath of the event has been enormous. They lost everything: furniture, books, photography equipment, electronics, kitchen supplies, bed linens and towels, shoes, and all winter and fall coats. The fire department identified that the fire was caused by a defective lithium battery that exploded, so their belongings were either burnt up or contaminated with toxic fumes and heavy soot. The only salvageable items were their bedroom furniture and the clothes in their bedroom closet, but these will require special cleaning to be used again. The structural damage to their unit is so significant that it will take six months to be repaired before they can return home. In addition to all this, they recently learned that their insurance coverage is minimal and it will cover only 40% of their personal belongings loss. Furthermore, the displacement allowance will cover only three months of temporary housing. Friends and family have been asking for ways to support them. This fundraiser will help with immediate basic needs and temporary housing. Sabrina and Eliezer are the first to offer help to those who need it, but now they need our help to rebuild their home. __________ No dia 9 de julho, as 6 pm, a casa da minha irma (Sabrina) e cunhado (Eliezer) pegou fogo. Eles nao estavam em casa no momento do incendio, porem a cachorrinha (Butter) deles estava. O vizinho do andar debaixo ouviu o alarme do detector de fumaca e ligou para o 911. Os bombeiros quebraram as janelas da sala e da cozinha para entrarem no apartamento. Butter foi resgatada, recebeu os primeiros-socorros como limpeza e oxigenio, e foi levada para o hospital veterinario. Apesar de apresentar algumas lesoes na pele, testes revelaram que ela nao precisaria passar a noite no hospital. No entanto, a Butter ficou em observacao por uma semana devido a possibilidade de desenvolver um edema pulmonar. Estamos felizes que Butter, Sabrina e Eliezer estao juntos e fisicamente bem. Porem, eles perderam tudo: moveis, livros, equipamento de fotografia, eletronicos e eletro-domesticos, utensilios de cozinha, jogos de cama e toalhas, sapatos, e todos os casacos de frio. Os bombeiros determinaram que o incendio foi causado por uma bateria de lithium defeituosa que explodiu e, por consequencia, todo o interior da casa esta coberta de fumaca e foligem toxica produzida pelos metais pesados da bateria. Segundo os bombeiros, os unicos items que poderao ser re-aproveitados, depois de passarem por uma limpeza profissional especifica, sao o mobiliario do quarto e as roupas que estavam no guarda roupa dentro do quarto do casal. O dano estrutural (paredes, chao, teto) foi tamanho que o reparo levara seis meses ate eles poderem voltar pra casa. Alem disso, Sabrina e Eliezer foram informados pela empresa de seguro que apenas 40% dos seus bens pessoais serao ressarcidos. Familias e amigos tem perguntado a melhor maneira de oferecer ajuda. Essa campanha vai ajudar com necessidade basicas imediatas e moradia temporaria. Sabrina and Eliezer sao sempre os primeiros a oferecem ajuda a qualquer pessoa que passa por necessidade, agora eles precisam da nossa ajuda.
