On July 26, MotoAmerica’s Team Brazil, Danilo Lewis and his father Carlos, were headed to Minnesota for the 7th round of the MotoAmerica Championship in Brainerd, but before they could get out of Milwaukee, they were hit by a drunk driver who ripped the front off their new RV. Unfortunately, the team does not have collision insurance and the drunk driver has no insurance. The RV was not able to continue on the journey. The team missed the Brainerd race, and will miss future rounds if the RV cannot be replaced. Team Brazil is devastated, but they never give up hope. The next race is the week of Aug 14, we are asking the community to help Team Brazil get the equipment needed to complete the season. The recently lost motorhome was their lifeline. It was their method of travel, their home, and their security. Everything they have earned, worked for, and dreamed of was ripped away by an impaired driver. Please consider donating to get this family back on the track! Every dollar, and every encouraging word, helps restore the team’s dream. Read more about their incredible journey below: In 2024, Danilo Lewis and his father, Carlos, took on an enormous challenge and stepped away from the Brazilian Superbike Championship to participate in the American motorcycle championship, MotoAmerica. In order to make this dream come true, the team sold all of their motorcycles and equipment in Brazil to support their journey to the USA. To get started Carlos traveled to Miami ahead of the team, rented a pick-up truck and borrowed a 1000cc motorcycle from an old friend. It wasn’t long before the team of three men squeezed in the front seat of the rented truck, with a motorcycle strapped in the back, and were off to Wisconsin, heading to RoadAmerica! The hopeful men quickly realized they needed more support. They didn’t know where to turn, so they googled “motorcycle shops” and Milwaukee Cycle Salvage was their first stop. The three men, wearing yellow and white race jerseys, used a translation app to explain they were here to race in the MotoAmerica series. They only asked for a place to store the borrowed motorcycle, while they drove across country to pick up a motorhome. Without a night’s sleep, the team was headed to Los Angeles. The motorhome, that should have been retired, became their new home. Carlos worked tirelessly to prepare the motorhome for travel, building a rack to carry the track bike on the back. Carlos nursed the motorhome around the USA for the entire season. Danilo ran the season on the borrowed bike in the Stock 1000 and Super Sport class. Danilo had several crashes that would have put most people out, so while Carlos was putting the bike together in the pits, Danilo was taping up the injured part of his body, so that both would be ready for the next race. Danilo had never ridden any of the tracks in the MotoAmerica calendar, but was able to improve every round and eventually finished at the Podium, placing third at the Laguna Seca track in California! The team has had many successes since and in 2024 they purchased a diesel engine RV that was better for pulling a trailer. Team Brazil also attained “Premier Status” for the 2024 season, and needed to change their track presence. They had a large canopy made, laid flooring under the canopy, and painted and logoed the RV and trailer. Thus far, the 2024 season has had many moments of success. They stepped up to the main class, Medallia Superbike and were also able to bring Danilo’s sister, Grabrielly Lewis to race the MotoAmerica Junior Cup. They have had their challenges this season, but things were going in the right direction before the RV crash. Please do what you can to help restore their dreams!
