My friend Michelle Dove has always been strong in the face of life's obstacles. She is reluctant to ask for help. I, however, am sincerely asking. Please help her. On January 3rd, 2024, Michelle was undergoing a routine port removal and replacement surgery. The doctor discovered a blockage made up of hardened blood clots. The surgeon immediately abandoned the procedure and explained that while SVC syndrome is not that rare, SVC syndrome caused by blood clots is extremely rare. Michelle unfortunately already knows a lot about blood clots since first dealing with them in 2016. The best-known treatments like anticoagulants, deep thrombosis, stints, and angioplasty have all been unsuccessful in the past. She has lost 90% of blood flow in her right leg as a result of a massive blood clot and failed treatments. SVC syndrome has 5 stages. Michelle went from moderate to severe in the span of two weeks. That was back on January 18th, 2024. She is now showing all the symptoms of the next stage the life-threating stage. Simply put, we know without intervention, Michelle will die. The Cleveland Clinic is a bright star in a dark sky. They are performing studies where they rebuild the superior vena cava and are starting to help people like Michelle whose situations are rare and complicated. Although, many appeals have been made, at this time insurance is unable to pay for the initial consultation with a vascular surgeon at the Cleveland clinic. The out-of-pocket cost for that visit is $1,000.00. This is Michelle's best shot at surviving. We are asking for enough to cover travel expenses and the next visit if Cleveland believes the construction is a viable option in Michelle's case. If not, we will continue to use any remaining funds to seek care. Michelle Dove deserves to live. She is a mother, sister, friend, and all-around good person. She campaigned to help my family when we were touched by leukemia. Michelle has helped many, many people throughout her 39 years on this earth and it is our turn to help her. Throughout all this, Michelle is still there for others, quick to smile and lend a kind ear to help in any way she can. I am very much asking that you do anything you can. Donate, share her story, and send it to anyone you think could help. I can't express how much it means to me and how much it will mean to Michelle.
