Hello, I’m Nicole, sister to Carly. Thank you again for all who supported Bryan’s GFM back in Jan of 2024 following his TBI. Sadly, Bryan has suffered a major, unforeseen setback, and I am humbly asking for any help if you’re able to give. No amount is too small. On June 20th, Bryan had a massive tonic colonic seizure while sleeping. Carly was showering and heard a horrible moan, at which time she ran to find Bryan seizing, and called 911. He continued to seize for 20 minutes. He was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda Medical Center. Because he was unable to move his legs or left arm, they followed a stroke protocol with him. His CT was clear so they sent him home 4 hours later. He was unable to walk but we were told that seizures can cause terrible muscle strain and he may be sore for a few days. After 7 days of him not being able to walk, his arm starting to show a lot of bruising, unbearable pain, which was only increasing by day, Carly took him back to the ER on the 27th (his birthday After 8 hours in the ER, they FINALLY determined that Bryan had a broken scapula and bilateral acetabulum fractures (both of his hips were broken)! How could a seizure do this, and how did they miss it the first time?! She has since discovered that not only is this type of injury extremely rare, but it’s even more rare from a seizure. It’s so rare that the ER doctors didn’t believe them and reported it to adult protective services. They were devastated to say the least. We couldn’t believe that after all he’s been through, he had to start all over again with recovery, and an entirely new rehabilitation process. We also couldn’t believe that they thought Carly, or someone else in the home did this to him! After a few days of research and examination, they decided that they did believe them. Bryan had a 7 hour surgery to repair his hips but the recovery will be long and hard. My heart breaks for him. He’s been through so much and he’s been so strong, but the defeat in his eyes, his voice, and his spirit is very evident. Not able to provide, and feeling helpless has been extremely hard for him. He came home yesterday after 12 days in the hospital and 7 days bed ridden at home prior to that. He will be non weight bearing for months. I am reopening this GFM because your generosity the first time around, gave my sister the ability to pay for some medical bills, and breathe a little easier. These hits have taken a huge toll on them. That said, we so appreciate anything. If you cannot give, please share, and please pray. Thank you so much. You got this Bryan!
