At the end of June Khalida Ghani, mother of 3 small children, was rushed to the hospital due to a pre-existing heart condition that suddenly worsened. It was determined upon arriving to the hospital she would need to undergo immediate and dangerous open-heart surgery to replace the valve in her heart. Because Khalida and her husband Mohammad are new arrivals to the United States, originally from Afghanistan, they have no family here to support them during this difficult time. Mohammad, who worked as a translator for the United States Military, was forced to leave his current job (due to lack of vacation/sick time) in order to be by his wife's side and to take care of the children. Khalida's recovery will be long and will require intense medical attention and rehabilitation making it difficult for her to take care of the children on her own. All money raised will go to help the family with their living expenses until it is safe for Mohammad to return to work. Thank you for helping this deserving family during such a difficult time.
