Hey yall. My name is Alexandra (she/her), and I'm writing because my friend Dean (they/them) and their cat Kiki need some help. They would never, ever ask for it themselves, and it's a real privilege to be able to summon some community for a friend who's done so much for everyone else. Maybe if you're lucky you've got a friend who's both an advocate of good common sense but also wild radical nonsense. Maybe you know someone who doesn't just offer help when it's needed, but before it's needed; who's thinking long-term about how to make their community better, possibly while wearing some glitter and making weird beautiful music and feeding stray cats. Maybe you know someone kind, fierce, funny, clever, strange & wonderful. I hope you do! That's Dean. They're a bright and brilliant person who's deeply uncomfortable with the whole idea of this fundraiser, but we all need help sometimes, and it's their turn. In June of 2024, Dean and Kiki were forced out of their long-term home in New Orleans by a mismanaged property and a massive termite infestation. I don't want to trigger anyone here, but it was like a horror scene in a movie. After some searching of where to re-settle, they finally decided to put down roots in Cincinnatti, OH. Unfortunately, the place they rented is infested with black mold. A lot of it. They've spoken with previous tenants, who fell ill from the mold, and the landlord knew about it for almost a decade. We, Dean's friends and Kiki's respectful admirers, would like to ask your help in getting our friends out of that house as soon as possible and into a place where they can breathe the air. We hope to help them get out of this house and find a new one quickly, and we are concerned about potential medical expenses from exposure to the mold. Anything you can give - truly, even a few dollars - would mean the world to us. Housing insecurity is something so many of us have & do struggle with. It is unfair and wrong. We should not have to rely on gofundmes for medical care and housing needs. That said, I know from personal experience that the uplift one feels when your community of friends & strangers comes together around you can do wonders to heal a heart during a hard time, and I badly want that for my friend. Thank you for reading this, and for anything you can give.
