Every time a Yawanawa elder dies, it is like a library being burned: there is so much loss of knowledge of how to use the rainforest plants to save lives and heal diseases that Western medicine sometimes can’t. By supporting the Guananshe sanctuary, you will help train the next generation of plant medicine experts and guarantee the transmission of Amazonia’s medicinal knowledge and healing practices to future generations. This also creates a new economic model where rainforest plants are worth more alive than as dead trees for lumber - raising awareness and creating jobs. Guananshe Sanctuary (www.guananshe.org) is a nonprofit project in the Bahia region of Brazil with a goal to empower the Yawanawa people to: Preserve their healing traditions among the younger generation Teach and share traditional plant medicine knowledge Create a bridge to help people around the world understand the effects of plants on consciousness and general health and well-being The retreat center, when complete, be a plant medicine school where indigenous teachers and students will: identify and document medicinal plant species in the indigenous language, protecting the intellectual property of the Yawanawa (this will not be sold to Big Pharma) Replant species in a medicinal plant garden Research and develop plant medicine products such as essential oils, creams, tinctures, and other products so that people who are too sick to visit the rainforest can benefit This is an emergency fundraiser to replace the work car at Guananshe Sanctuary. The current car broke down in its gear system, and there is no qualified labor in the region to properly repair it. The Sanctuary's access road is a dirt road, making it difficult for normal cars to travel, especially during the rainy season. (Guananshe @ sunset) Why getting a new vehicle is so important? Acquiring a new vehicle is crucial because it directly impacts the logistic operations at Guananshe Sanctuary. With the construction of the retreat center almost completed, there are numerous final details to address, requiring multiple trips to the nearest town. The vehicle is essential for transporting materials. Without a vehicle, this process slows down immensely. What does having it allow you to do/finish? While the organization really needs a new pickup truck in the long term (a stretch goal of $14k), this funding is for a motorcycle and wagon, which will ensure that work is not interrupted, the sanctuary can receive visitors sooner, and thus is can being to generate revenue to purchase a car to drive visitors, service providers, and transport materials and tools with ease. (Guest talk with Paulo Roberto for Terra.do) For donations of >$500, we will be offering a call with Paulo Roberto, as well as unique one-of-a-kind Yawanawa jewelry. Each handmade artisanal items piece holds a significance as well as a form of spiritual protection. Paulo Roberto Silva e Souza is the President of Guananshe Co. in South Bahia, and the manager of Jungle Clinic projects in Rio, Bahia and Amazonia at Mutum, Yawanawa village. He is one of the foremost English-speaking authorities on the psycho-spiritual work of Amazonian communities and who has influenced thousands as an educator, activist, and minister. He is a trained psychologist who specializes in integrating the science of the mind with theology that spoke to the spirit, and has been a pioneering researcher on the psychological, physiological and biological effects of entheogenic plants. (Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets, and more!) My name is Seth Collins, and I'm supporting this fundraiser and will oversee the transfer of funds to the nonprofit entity in Brazil. I have personally studied at the Sanctuary and with Paulo Roberto and can attest to the wondrous personal healing capacity of these plants.
