Hi there! My name is Cedar and I am a 16 year old climber from British Columbia. I have been climbing ever since I could walk, and it has been a lifelong dream of mine to compete at a World Cup representing Canada. Incredibly, this goal was achieved when I placed 3rd in Canadian Youth Lead Nationals this May, earning me a spot on the national team and a ticket to compete at Youth Worlds in Seoul, Korea this August! I am incredibly excited about this opportunity and so, so grateful to everyone who has helped me get this far in my competition climbing career, particularly my mom/coach. Climbing is one of my biggest passions in life, and I have learned so much about hard work, mindset, and perseverance through climbing. It teaches me about myself, connects me with others, and allows me to push myself, both physically and mentally. The opportunity to compete and represent Canada on the world stage is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I am so excited to meet other amazing climbers from across the globe, bond over the shared passion of climbing, and show how much my training and love for the sport has paid off. I look forward to this incredible experience and the opportunity to show the world what I’ve got! Unfortunately, the expenses of going to South Korea will be costly for my family and I. As the event takes place this August, there is very little time to save for such an expensive trip. Any amount you can donate would be truly appreciated, and funds would go towards covering the expenses of airfare, accommodation, competition and national team expenses, and training fees while in Seoul. I am so, so thankful for any contributions that are made to help me on this adventure, your support is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much for your generosity, Cedar Pidgeon (and family). If you are interested, you can watch some of my outdoor bouldering as well as my performance at Youth Lead National on my YouTube HERE. I wanted to add that one of my concerns regarding travelling to South Korea is the large carbon footprint of the trip. This is why I decided to volunteer with a local environmental organization earlier this summer. MySeaToSky is a non-profit that works to raise awareness and gather support about projects and behaviour that threaten the environmental well-being of Howe Sound. Although my volunteering certainly does not counteract the carbon footprint of my trip, I hope that it does some good in improving my town and keeping it the beautiful and healthy place it is now.
