Hi there, Ash Road Area Residents Association (ARARA) is a community group, based in Headingley Leeds, that was constituted over ten years ago to positively address local issues that affect the area. The main purpose of the group is to involve as many residents as possible in developing a joint approach to the enhancement of the local environment. Projects we have completed include: • Painting of local virgin boxes by art college students • Installation of street planters • Design and fixture of our local wood's entrance sign and information boards We are currently working on an ambitious new project to bring more artwork from Leeds-based artists to be enjoyed by our community and beyond. The first of these is a mural on the gable end of a property adjacent to the local wood (as seen in the picture :-)) Street art is one way of showing an area is looked after by the local community and has been shown to have a positive effect on how people living in the area treat their environment. The inspiration behind our first mural is the recognition of the importance of nature and green spaces in urban areas, offering opportunities for community members to enhance both their physical and mental well-being. This project has been partly funded by our local Council and several community donations, but more funding is needed to complete our current mural and hopefully plan our next initiative. The response so far from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, so we will be truly grateful for any contributions however small. Thank you, Jane. ARARA Secretary
