My name is Katherine and I worked with Gilbert at the Old Plantation, where he was the manager and owner of OPEP. He is in desperate need of our community's help. His health challenges are mounting, and he has recently had to have his leg amputated below the knee. He has also had several other amputations of his digits on both hands. Unfortunately, his medical bills are mounting, and his house needs repair to make it habitable for him to recover in a safe environment. Among other repairs, it needs handicap accessibility as he will now be in a wheelchair. Gilbert is a good person and has dedicated his life to the LGBTQ community in El Paso. Now, we need to take care of our older people in our own community. While financial help is needed, words of encouragement can also go a long way to lift his spirits.
